Design & Pattern:
Amli shawls are designed entirely with needle embroidery on a plain
ground, producing simulating patterns similar to those of loom-woven
kani shawls. Pashm wool is mainly used for the embroidery. But quite
often zari thread is also used for crafting exquisite Amli shawls. These
shawls are available in vibrant shades and colors and symbolises
elegance and class.
Commonly used stitch work for making amli shawls include:
- Chain stitch
- Satin stitch
- Stem stitch
Of all the stitches, chain stitch is most commonly and widely used
for making amli shawls. Amli shawls also involved Map shawls, which had
map of Kashmir valley embroidered on the shawl.
